..with this little guy. When we found out Merritt was on his way in early spring 2007, we were quite surprised. We felt like we were still getting used to having one child–Troy was still pretty little himself, we were in the midst of multiple moves and big changes, and we just… kinda forgot that another baby could come at any time. So I spent the first couple months of that pregnancy (once I finally realized I was, in fact, expecting) not only trying to make two moves and battling all-day sickness, but in a state of excitement tempered with a whole lotta shock.
But I just didn’t even know.
I didn’t realize how much I’d need this little boy. How quickly I’d fall head over heels in love with him. How precious he’d be. How even in his birth he’d be a testament to me of Philippians 4:13 in action. I didn’t know that my heart could be soothed over the course of a difficult year, just by looking in his sparkly little eyes. His sweet spirit, his big grins, his gentle giggle.
It had all happened once before when Troy was born, but I just couldn’t imagine feeling the same way about another baby as I had with my first. Everyone told me I’d love this second one just as much, but it was simply unfathomable.
And yet, I did.
And just like all the other mothers foretold, I loved him just as much… and completely different.
